The Artist

The Galesburg Public Art Commission chose internationally renowned artist Lonnie Stewart to complete the Galesburg Public Art Commission’s inaugural project. The Galesburg native completed his education at Knox College before moving on to the Chicago Art Institute. He then pursued advanced training in numerous fine arts studios around the country. His unique talents as an artist span five decades and include sculpture, oil painting, portraits, landscapes, still life, monotypes, drawings and posters. His work is collected in private collections throughout the world.

The Galesburg Public Arts Commission’s inaugural project, the 9 ft. Carl Sandburg Statue, stands in Galesburg’s Central Park.
